city of trees begins

I've started a new tree story series as part of a group show here in Sacramento at the 20th Street Gallery, called 50-50. More than fifty artists create fifty artworks in fifty days, each artist works according to their own theme. My theme is "City of Trees" and this is one of my prototypes for the series - the fifty days started Friday January 30th, so this is the fourth day. With drying time for all the layers of collage & color, I've got to create in batches - right now I've got 18 of my 6x6" panels at the collage stage and will get to right work coloring...

Endless Battle

Still it stands, the tree of life
holding its ground
struggling to survive the endless battle.

Still it comes, the mist of death
unleashing its powers
trying to win the endless battle.

Still there is, an equilibrium
balancing the scales
making sure there is an endless battle.

Still I wonder, could someone win
life or death, growth or decay
bringing an end to the endless battle.

Another new kind of tree story - this is a hand-colored black & white photograph incorporated into a mixed media collage on canvas titled "Hope." Dimensions 10"x10" x2.5" deep, $275 (but I'm not entirely sure I'm ready to give it up just yet.) You can read some of the story at my Visions of Heaven blog.
